Storage Boxes: His and Hers

Speaking of organizing, my husband and I talked about cleaning up our closet again. A quick glance inside our master closet will show rows of trinkets and gadgets like DSLR, his camera lenses, small cash box, my accessories, a talking Barney doll and some papers from the bank. This closet is for our clothes by the way so imagine my disgust everytime I have to sort through these things so I can find something to wear. Inspired by a TV show last night, we decided to use plastic storage boxes for each items and then put all the boxes on the bottom left side of the closet. My mission is to make our closet look as if a personal organizer came in and re-arranged all our stuff. I’m interested on those big boxes that has small individual boxes inside so you can separate the items according to use. I’m very excited with this small project because now, I can finally segregate my husband’s stuff from mine.

Dream Bedrooms

Need ideas in upgrading your bedroom? Browse through this san diego bedroom furniture gallery and you’d wonder why you haven’t upgraded your bedroom for a long time.

I prefer comfortable rooms myself with a touch of contemporary style. My idea of a perfect bedroom is one that devoid of clutter, uses earth tone colors with a touch of red or blue on the furniture, a nice huge painting that complements the color of the room and a walk-in closet. So when I saw the Valerie bedroom set below, I wondered if someone has been reading my thoughts. It’s very close to what I have in mind. You can buy this Valerie set at www.jeromes.com for a total of $2,049.99 but you can also choose from their package combinations or buy them per piece.

Aside from contemporary styles, I also like this Manor bedroom set with carved wood and rich cherry finish. It reminds me so much of bed rooms in dream vacations that I see online. It has a rustic and romantic feel to it and being a hopeless romantic myself, I can see myself having a bedroom like this. If I have the budget, I’d go for this one instead of the Valerie set.

*shots of wawa dam by my husband

From the Philippines Insider website

The Wawa Dam flanked by limestone walls is a majestic site. The quiet river, the huge limestone rocks, the caves, and the tranquil scenery depict a mystical scene. It is like traveling back in time. The view of the magnificent gorge is awe-inspiring; no wonder a lot of people would love to have a try at rock climbing here.

Local legend has it that Bernardo Carpio, a figure in Philippine Mythology, was once lured into a trap here by the Spaniards. Employing the powers of a shaman, Bernardo Carpio, being a giant in one version, was trapped in between two rocks in the Wawa Dam site. As proof of which, it is said that his hands or feet have been imprinted on the rocks. Local lore also says that one of his teeth was found in one of the caves.

A New Earth

Have you read this book - A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose? My mother-in-law has been looking for one but it’s always out of stock. I’m thinking of buying it online instead. This book is the latest selection from Oprahs Book Club which my husband told me not to believe because it’s just a marketing ploy. But I’ve actually enjoyed some of the books from Oprahs book club so I’m giving this one a chance. Besides, I’ve read this review from the Buy.com site and find it really interesting.

Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual guide to creating a better way of living and a better world to live in.

Building on the astonishing success of The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle presents readers with an honest look at the current state of humanity: He implores us to see and accept that this state, which is based on an erroneous identification with the egoic mind, is one of dangerous insanity.

De-Cluttering Your Home

Filed under: home improvement — Wrote by admin on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 @ 8:02 am

When you have a toddler, it’s just natural that the state of your house would be, more often than not, in chaos. Not only with toddlers but if you’re anything like me and my husband, you’d fill your house with any type of knick-knacks, “collectibles”, freebies, old furniture, books, cds and cassette tapes (because you can’t let go of the past) and other more junk that you can ever think of. This is why I’m a fan of the TV show “Clean House” because of their organization tips. I also try to read online about de-cluttering articles so I can put order in our chaotic house. One tip that I’ve been practicing for some time now is the use of storage boxes. I saw a company selling acid free and water resistant storage boxes which I hope can stand the test of time (or at least a couple of years). This is exactly what I need because I have tons of paperwork from old work and projects that I’d like to protect them from moisture and other elements. I also like the idea of using garage storage boxes to store old stuff that you just can’t let go of yet. And if I have my way, I’d probably buy those space-saver, under the bed boxes for storing items that you want to have access quickly. Just make sure you label each boxes so you’d know exactly where to find what you’re looking for. I tend to go crazy packing things in boxes that when the time comes that I need to get something, I end up opening all of them.

Bring Your Files Anywhere

I’ve never appreciated how useful portable storage can be until I met a client last Monday. I didn’t want to bring my laptop because one, I haven’t replaced my battery yet and two, I just don’t see myself lugging something heavy without a car. So thanks to my ever reliable portable hardisk, I just saved all my designs and finished website and then plugged it in my client’s computer. My husband learned about this and wanted to have one for himself. He needs to bring it with him in the office all the time so he can’t possibly share mine. So I promised him I’ll get him one if I earn extra this month.

I’m choosing between the two -

Western Digital 160GB
My Passport Essential USB 2.0
Portable Hard Drive - Real Red

Western Digital 320GB
My Passport Essential USB 2.0
Portable Hard Drive - Intense Blue

The only difference is the capacity but they both have the following features.

From Buy.com

Simply Elegant
# Combine a beautiful new gloss-red case that fits smoothly in your hand and pocket with mega-capacity for all your digital content and the worlds most popular portable drive just got better than ever.

Easy
# Installation is a snap because you don’t really “install” this drive; you just plug it in and it’s ready to use. There is no CD to install; the included software loads from the drive the first time you plug it in.

Smart
# Powered by the USB bus. No separate power supply is needed.

Big capacity that fits in your pocket
# This compact drive fits easily in your pocket or purse, weighs only a few ounces and with capacities up to 320 GB, you can take tons of photos, videos, files and music with you wherever you go.

Synchronized and secure
# WD Sync synchronization and encryption software lets you take your critical data with you. Plug My Passport into any PC, edit files, read e-mail, and view photos. Then sync all of your changes back to your home or office computer. Your data is protected with 128-bit encryption. (Windows only)

Includes Google software
# Search your drive, manage your photos, and simplify Web searches with included Google software. (Windows only)

But for twice the capacity size, you only have to pay about $45 extra for the blue model. Not so shabby eh? Now you can bring all the photos, electronic books, videos, music, even scrapbooking kits with you wherever you want to go.

A Guide to Home Furnishings and Decors

Need help on your shopping? Shopwiki.com can help. I confess that I’m clueless when it comes to choosing the right lamp, bedding and furniture. What I do is check websites with buying guides like Shopwiki so I’d know what to look for. For example, when it comes to buying comforters, I just check the design, thickness and that’s it. I get the cheapest with the nicest design. What I didn’t know is that you can compare them better based on fill power ratings. The higher the rating, the better the quality. This explains why some of them are more expensive when they actually look the same.

I’m also an avid reader of ShopWiki’s home decorating style guide. This is what every Do-It-Yourselfers need to read to avoid turning your place into a hodge podge of styles. The common mistake is that people buy things that they think will look good, without considering the overall look and feel of the room. Another thing that I’ve learned is how to shop for desk lamps. Aside from how nice it will look on your work area, you need to consider other requirements such as the ability to direct the light, multiple brightness settings, flexibility, shape and size, even energy statistics of the bulb. I love fancy lamps especially those that use stained glass however, I doubt if it will meet the requirements for my work area. I need something more flexible and one that can provide enough lighting coverage without affecting the whole room. Shopwiki helped me filter my options that I saved a lot of time and effort finding what I really need.
