New Techie List

Filed under: technology — Wrote by admin on Friday, August 15th, 2008 @ 5:40 pm

I realize when I got back last night that my network cable needs replacing really bad. I’m wondering if the speed of my internet has something to do with the old cable? I used to have a spare but with all the junk around the house, I doubt if I can find it at all. While researching how much a CAT6 cable will cost me, I found a couple of items that I want to purchase in the next month or two.

  • New network cables
  • High end router with a wider range so I can surf in the office downstairs
  • Wireless mouse
  • 22″ LCD monitor
  • Intuos pen tablet (to all my clients, if you love me, send me one please!)

The list is definitely shorter this time. The bad news is that they are more expensive.

askPLDT - Ask PLDT anything

Filed under: technology — Wrote by admin on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 @ 9:38 am

I received my phone and DSL invoice yesterday and one of the flyers inside was about this new feature for PLDT subscribers. It’s called askPLDT and works basically as an information and directory service. Simply dial the numbers 101-811 using your PLDT landline and you can have access to ALMOST all questions that’s bugging you. There’s no information online so I can’t grab any marketing banner or logo.

Information and Directory
Fast food delivery hotlines
Public advisories
Foreign exchange rates
Travel info
Visa, passport and embassy info
Emergency hotlines
Weather and time check
Chuch mass schedules

Daily Updates
Breaking news
Showbiz chikka
Daily horoscope
Funny jokes
Thought for the day

Latest Happenings
Shopping mall sales
Latest shopping trends

Others: sports news, tv and movie schedules, cooking recipes, gasul delivery, DIY tips, laundry shops, tutorial centers, day care, school tips, plumbing

Amazing huh. I’m very happy to have this feature because my husband and I often find ourselves asking the following questions - “what’s the plumber’s number?”, “do you have the number for taxy service?”, “what’s the number for pizza??”, “we need a carpenter! go fetch the guard to find someone”. Now all we have to do is dial 101-811 and voila! Problem solved. I hope.

PLDt is known for bad customer service so I wonder what they were thinking when they launched this service? I guess I’ll call them all the time just to ask why their customer service sucks. LOL. We’ll see how this goes. First 30 inquiries per month are free by the way.

The Nokia N96 is the latest in the NSeries of Nokia.

Just like any other smartphones in the market, this is a multi-functional phone designed to integrate mobile communication with complete entertainment features. I’ve always been a fan of smartphones ever since I found out I can browse the net using these small gadgets. This particular smartphone is different from its predecessors because of advanced video and camera capabilities. With a large 2.8″ screen, you would enjoy watching your TV shows, thanks to advanced television viewing feature (network-dependent). It stores up to 16GB of internal memory and can be expanded with an optional microSD card.

Targeted Campaigns

Filed under: technology, websites — Wrote by admin on Sunday, July 27th, 2008 @ 2:20 pm

Purchasing marketing data is one of the most proven marketing tools that really work. One of the main reasons why companies prefer to purchase opt-in lists is that they need it to be perfect. They can’t afford to waste time sending campaigns, hoping that one of the recipients will be interested. This is why mailing lists providers like The List Company makes sure that all their products are accurate and have a high rate of deliverability.

The List Company has one of the largest databases that contain over 14 million US businesses and 300 million US consumers. From telemarketing lists to specialty response list, you are guaranteed that the data you will purchase has been analyzed thoroughly to ensure the success of your campaign. For example, on their mortgage mailing list, they implement an exclusive enhanced mortgage profiling so your offers will be matched accurately to the most likely responders. They create data over proven statistics and based on multiple related fields. On consumers / telemarketing lists, they have files on behavior and purchasing patterns for most households. This type of data compiling guarantees that the list will contain the most detailed information available.

Custom Domain in Blogspot

Filed under: blogging tips, technology — Wrote by admin on Monday, July 21st, 2008 @ 4:03 pm

I bought a new domain just recently and wanted to try using blogspot as my host. One, it’s free and two, there are so many cool blogger templates out there that I’d like to try. You’ve all probably tried using a custom domain successfully but I wasn’t fortunate. I tried to follow all the steps from the Blogger.com help page but my changes are not taking effect. So I asked a friend who’s currently hosting her blog at blogspot and she sent me the following:

The steps are for domains registered at GoDaddy but I’m sure it’s almost the same with other registrars.

1. Log in to your blogger account and go to Settings > Publishing

2. Set the publishing to your blogspot address

3. Log in to your GoDaddy account and access the domain that you want to update

4. Select ‘Enable Forwarding’
- Select 302 Moved Temporarily
- Forward to http://name.blogspot.com

5. Select ‘Enable Masking’ and click OK

6. Open a new browser and type your new domain http://name.com. It should now redirect to your blogspot address (http://name.blogspot.com). It might take a while before the domain gets redirected to blogspot so be patient

7. When the domain redirection is working, go back to GoDaddy account and access Namerservers

8. Check Hosting Name Servers then click OK.
Your namerservers should now say:
Name Server 1: NS51.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
name Server 2: NS52.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

9. Now, click ‘Total DNS Control and MX Records’

10. Under the CNAME section, click ‘Edit’ for the www entry

11. Under points to host name, change @ to ghs.google.com

12. Login to your blogger account then go back to Settings > Publishing

13. Change publishing to custom domain and type in your new domain:
http://www.name.com

14. Save Settings

15. Check redirect name.com to www.name.com

16. Save Settings

Now this may all seem redundant and the original instructions might have worked with you. However, I know a couple of friends who experienced the same problem using their custom domains so I don’t think there’s any harm following the steps above.

Simplified Email Marketing

Filed under: cool finds, technology — Wrote by admin on Friday, July 18th, 2008 @ 5:00 pm

Let me share with you my latest web find. I believe both novice and advanced email marketers will appreciate what this site has to offer. Their main service is ViperMailer, a fully functional email marketing software that lets you send professional email campaigns easily.

So what is email marketing really? An excerpt from their site here:

As defined by ViperMailer, email marketing is a means for your company, group or publication to routinely maintain contact with your clients, contacts, or subscribers via an email building and express delivery system. People like to receive emails from familiar places rather than offers they did not want or ask for i.e. SPAM.

Here’s what you can do with ViperMailer email marketing software are:

Contact group / Email list management
User-friendly control panel
Newsletter campaign statistics - delivery, opened email and link click tracking
Powerful email creation editor that lets you use HTML, attachments and automated opt-out feature
Create proof users for graphical and spelling mistakes
Free professional mailer templates

What’s really great about this company is that they offer email marketing training for free. Simply click the Education tab to gain access on helpful resources and articles about email marketing. Here you will learn how to maximize your email marketing software, building trust with recipients, how to write effective campaigns, call to actions and many more. Aside from these great documents, you can even get a head start by reading the 19 Steps to Launching a Successful Email Marketing Campaign at www.EmailMarketingAuthority.com.
