Being a Homeowner

Filed under: anything under the sun, money matters — Wrote by admin on Friday, August 22nd, 2008 @ 9:54 am

Another friend of mine bought a house. It seems there are only a couple of us remaining who are still not proud homeowners. I wish my time will come soon because I really don’t want to waste money by renting. However, we still don’t have enough money to start requesting for mortgage quotes. When I buy a house, I want to at least be able to give a huge down payment so my husband and I will not spend twenty years paying high mortgage on a monthly basis. You never know what the future will bring which is why as much as possible; I pay for expensive items in full.

Movie Nights

Need new home theater seating? A friend recommends the Theater Seating Store for all your seating needs. She just bought a home theater love seat for their new house there and couldn’t stop raving about it. She said their entertainment room feels like a movie house now that they prefer to stay in than go out anymore. Well, I would feel the same too especially if I spent thousands of dollars on a 40″ Plasma TV and surround system. Anyway, they are holding a monthly movie night from their place starting next month so I will experience firsthand how cool it is to have your own “home theater”. For sure, my husband will go home all determined that he can replicate the experience with cheaper equipment. ;)

Golf Items for Giveaway

I suddenly had an idea today for a cool promotional item for my client. I was browsing this online shop for golf balls when it occurred to me how my client and almost everyone in their company are golf lovers. In fact, when they came to visit Manila last July, their first requirement was that they will check out the most expensive golf clubs here. I’m thinking we can put a nice looking logo in golf items like golf balls (or golf bags for top members) then add a complimentary two-hour tee time on their choice of golf club. I’ll try to pitch this idea to my client next week and hope that he go through it. He said he wanted something special and unique so I think this should do the trick.

Stop and Observe

When you’re stuck in the hospital and your list of things to do are limited, it’s amazing how many things you will discover/feel:

1. Call center agents still wear wool scarves even if it’s all sunny and humid outside.

2. The beautiful floral arrangements that I admired at the front desk are actually silk flowers.

3. You’d feel bad about patients who are waiting for rooms at the lobby because the only ones available are the suites, costing Php8,000 a night.

4. Cigarette smoking kills. Posters and commercials are plastered all around the lobby to remind people about lung cancer.

5. Most of the ER nurses are jaded that they can’t afford to smile anymore.

6. You just know when something’s wrong with the doctor’s diagnosis.

We need a treat

As soon as my husband gets out of the hospital, I will definitely make plans for a beach trip. I got a great travel deal from my sister-in-law so we might make it two or three nights, depending on the weather. While I write this, I can already feel the soft sand under my feet and hear the crashing of the waves. However, I need to schedule it properly because my work has piled up so high for the last four days. I want to at least finish 70% of them before we go out of town. Also, I need to get a couple of swimsuits because I gained some pounds that I doubt if my old suits will fit me anymore.

Are You Addicted to the Internet?

Tell me something I don’t know.

You Are 79% Addicted to the Internet

In your opinion, life without the internet is hardly worth living.
Could be, but you probably need a bit more fresh air and sunshine to think clearly.

A New Earth

Have you read this book - A New Earth, Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose? My mother-in-law has been looking for one but it’s always out of stock. I’m thinking of buying it online instead. This book is the latest selection from Oprahs Book Club which my husband told me not to believe because it’s just a marketing ploy. But I’ve actually enjoyed some of the books from Oprahs book club so I’m giving this one a chance. Besides, I’ve read this review from the Buy.com site and find it really interesting.

Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual guide to creating a better way of living and a better world to live in.

Building on the astonishing success of The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle presents readers with an honest look at the current state of humanity: He implores us to see and accept that this state, which is based on an erroneous identification with the egoic mind, is one of dangerous insanity.
