From Booking Through Thursday

What was the last book you bought?
My husband bought me the Twilight Saga

Name a book you have read MORE than once
Twilight Saga, Griffin and Sabine Trilogy, The Alchemist, Veronika Decides to Die, Can you keep a secret, Catcher in the Rye, Harry Potter 1-7, Time Traveler’s Wife

How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews
Whenever I head about a new title, I research it thoroughly. I read reviews, user comments, etc. before I buy it. If a friend or at least someone I know who have the same taste as mine likes a title, I’d most likely buy it.

Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
Fiction. Great way to escape. ;)

What’s more important in a novel - beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
Both. It’s a cliche but sometimes it’s not the destination but the journey.

Most loved/memorable character (character/book)
Edward Cullen, Gavin Montgomery, Griffin and Sabine

Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
Twilight of course. I’m re-reading it for the 5th time.

What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?
Aside from Twilight, I’m also now reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer.

Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
Yes, there are so many titles in my mind.

3x Thursday: Do You Believe?

Filed under: anything under the sun — Wrote by admin on Thursday, October 9th, 2008 @ 10:52 am

Read about 3x Thursday here.

1. Do you believe we’re on this planet for a reason? If so, what is it? If not, what *do* you believe?
To be honest, I don’t know why we’re here. I’m sure there are plenty of scientific or spiritual reason. All I can say is I’m happy to be here and that I get to experience all the hardships and joys that comes with being a human being.

2. Do you believe we carve our own paths, or is it possible that there’s such a thing as ‘destiny’? Why/why not?
I believe that we were born to do or be something but it’s our choices that will define our future.

3. Do you believe in magic? Why/why not?
I would like to think so, yes. The world is a mysterious place and there are some things that just don’t need any explanations.

1. If someone expects you to do something you aren’t obligated to do, does that make you want to do it less?
Very much. Especially when I believe that it was handed to me because the person who was supposed to do it was too worthy.

2. Are there any activities, commitments, obligations in your life that instantly put you in a bad mood?
Yes. Going to the mall when it’s too crowded, visiting distant relatives just because we have to, attending weddings or family reunions with the same distant relatives

3. What do other people do that irritate you that you recognize as a weakness in yourself?
Talk so loud they don’t care if other people can hear their business.

4. Do you surround yourself with the friends who like you best?
Yes and no. I need to like them very much too.

5. When you are angry or nervous, how do you calm yourself down?
I switch on my ipod or curl on the bed and read an ebook from my phone to escape.

6. Do you take compliments well?
I get embarassed but I know I should be more graceful about it.

7. Do you think you would have been a different person if you had different parents?
If I was raised by millionaires, I might look at the world differently, so yes.

8. Do you change your mind frequently or do you make up your mind about something and stay firm with that position?
I change my mind all the time. But only I can change my decision. I rarely get affected by someone else’s advice especially my husband’s. :D However, if the decision will affect the whole family, like if we should get a travel medical insurance or not, I always ask his opinion to make sure we’re in the same page.

9. Describe the person that would be the exact opposite of you.
My husband. That’s why we match.

10. Are you generally capable of seeing both sides of an argument at the same time?
Always.

The Cullens Addiction

Okay, I’m doing nothing today but browse for Twilight photos and videos. I just love how they were able to capture the feel of the book on screen. Even the make up is perfect. The all-too beautiful, dazzling white face, no blackheads or acne on their immaculate skin, perfect hair no matter how fast they move.

The school cafeteria scene wasn’t what I had in mind though. And almost of the scenes that I envisioned happened in the dark. But the meadow scene? Ahh, it’s so magical and romantic, exactly what I imagined it should be. I wish it’s November 21 already so I can watch the movie. I’m so tired of watching the clips, I need the real thing!

10 Great/Awful Things About Television Today

Filed under: personal stuff, tags — Wrote by admin on Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 @ 2:12 pm

Ten On Tuesday

1. Great - Re-runs of my favorite shows of course. F.R.I.E.N.D.S., Sex and the City, Saturday Night Live - Handpicked

2. Awful - Reality TV shows. There’s even a reality show for taking care of dogs.

3. Great - New TV Shows - What About Brian, Pushing Daisies, Psyche

4. Awful - Low class talk shows, people airing their dirty laundry in public. Or too many people taking their chances on game shows because of low employment rate.

5. Great - Celebrity gossip shows. I love seeing celebrities doing normal stuff like buying groceries, eating out, watching movies

6. Awful - Celebrity gossip shows. The part where they feature real-time face lifts and liposuction procedures. Yuck!

7. Great - So You Think You Can Dance. The contestants are just amazing! Most of the time I can’t believe how they manage to execute an unbelievable dance step. Makes me want to dance too.

8. Awful - The Bachelor 100th Season

9. Great - Coffee Prince. I found my soul mate here LOL

10. Great - cartoons are more interactive. The characters ask plenty of questions to encourage the kids to participate.

See Manic Monday here.

What is one thing you admire about each of your parents?
They are not rich but they managed to raise two good kids. Gave them good education so they can be successful in life.

Which parts of your home do you like best?
My old bedroom and our living room. I remember spending hours in the afternoon reading a book while I hear the sound of my mom’s sewing machine.

Which would you prefer and why? To have every stoplight turn green upon your arrival for the rest of your life or to have one week of the best sex any person ever had?
I never really care about stoplights so the best sex there is, definitely!

Designing For A Cause

Got another pro bono gig today. I will design a banner and invitation for a Christmas party in an orphanage here. I was told these kids love to play football a lot so the theme will be all about football. There will be campus banners, football uniforms, cheerleaders, a mock stadium and anything that will make you think you stepped in a real football game. I suggested getting football trophies as prizes for the party games and they immediately agreed. I’d thought of designing a logo for each team uniform too but they didn’t have enough budget to have it customized. Someone donated 60 football shirts so they will just go with that. I’m sure it will be a blast. My husband offered to take photos of the event so I’ll make sure to post some of them here.

The Price for Fitness

Filed under: personal stuff — Wrote by admin on Friday, October 3rd, 2008 @ 5:14 pm

Because my husband is doing his best to lose weight these days, I told him I’d buy him anything that he wants. He answered by saying he didn’t need anything. That he was exercising for his own good, not because of some incentive. Before I get to say how proud I am of him, he immediately gave me a list of things that he’s been planning to buy. Since I mentioned the incentive, he said he might as well take advantage. I know I shouldn’t have said anything LOL. So aside from PSP, he also wants a bike, a new trainer, steering rack, upgrade his cell phone and another camera lens. So much for not needing anything.
