Stop and Observe

When you’re stuck in the hospital and your list of things to do are limited, it’s amazing how many things you will discover/feel:

1. Call center agents still wear wool scarves even if it’s all sunny and humid outside.

2. The beautiful floral arrangements that I admired at the front desk are actually silk flowers.

3. You’d feel bad about patients who are waiting for rooms at the lobby because the only ones available are the suites, costing Php8,000 a night.

4. Cigarette smoking kills. Posters and commercials are plastered all around the lobby to remind people about lung cancer.

5. Most of the ER nurses are jaded that they can’t afford to smile anymore.

6. You just know when something’s wrong with the doctor’s diagnosis.

We need a treat

As soon as my husband gets out of the hospital, I will definitely make plans for a beach trip. I got a great travel deal from my sister-in-law so we might make it two or three nights, depending on the weather. While I write this, I can already feel the soft sand under my feet and hear the crashing of the waves. However, I need to schedule it properly because my work has piled up so high for the last four days. I want to at least finish 70% of them before we go out of town. Also, I need to get a couple of swimsuits because I gained some pounds that I doubt if my old suits will fit me anymore.

Goals for the Next Six Years

What I plan to do/have before I turn 35

A nice four-bedroom house just like the ones from Outer Banks.

My own car and hopefully, I know how to drive by that time. I also want to be able to take a road trip with me as the driver of course.

A thriving business offline. I love the Internet but there’s something satisfying in managing your business in person, touching your merchandise and all that.

Sky dived, scuba dived.

Visited Paris, Spain and Italy (which means I need to start traveling every two years)

Learned French and violin.

Started painting again.

Putting on My Thinking Cap

I’m currently researching for cool promotional items for a client again. Their company’s annual party will be held in three months so we’re getting busy cleaning up the website, designing banners and pamphlets, and making sure that all the giveaways are of top quality. Last year, he gave away USB pens to all guests so we need to come up with something as nice this year. The budget is only $15 each (although this is already huge if you ask me) so we’re limited to office items and cheap computer paraphernalia. A captain’s chair or a Do-it-All tool set would be nice too, if I can find a better deal than $15 below.

Traveling Safely

I asked my mother in law last night if she has travel insurance. She travels by plane almost weekly so it’s really something that she should consider. I read an article on the importance of travel insurance so I wanted to make sure that she’s taking all precautions when traveling. At 58 years old, she drives her own SUV to work and to meetings inside Metro Manila. She had so many bad experiences with her previous drivers that she’d rather get tired driving than deal with driver’s issues. We get worried a lot though because she gets home at 12MN most of the time. I don’t think you should suppose to be driving at that age and that time of the night. Even if I know how to drive, I just can’t imagine driving back home after working for more than 18 hrs. And I’m half her age!

Another great Internet find, thanks to Alpha. Wordle creates word clouds from text that you provide or most frequently used text found from a blog or web page.

Here’s mine:

I wonder why Boonex is so big when I haven’t been posting about it for the last couple of months :) Other words that jump to me immediately are - Want One Free Time. People Home Alone.

Great Deal

b_38284.jpgA friend is offering to send her old Oscar de la Renta peep toe (see right) if I will design a 10-page website for her. She didn’t know this but I would’ve charged her way much lower than I usually do because, she’s after all, a very close friend. But since she offered me her two-month-old shoes (too small for her) I’m having this vision of wearing the shoes on this party that I need to attend next month. My remaining girlfriends (most of them are overseas already) and I promised each other that we’ll have a huge night out because it has been months since we’ve seen each other. The shoes would look fabulous with my mini-twiggy-dress. However, I can definitely use the money for my future travel plans. Sigh. Decisions, decisions.

Oh well, I guess I’ll take the shoes. Now that wasn’t so hard.

Are You Addicted to the Internet?

Tell me something I don’t know.

You Are 79% Addicted to the Internet

In your opinion, life without the internet is hardly worth living.
Could be, but you probably need a bit more fresh air and sunshine to think clearly.

askPLDT - Ask PLDT anything

Filed under: technology — Wrote by admin on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 @ 9:38 am

I received my phone and DSL invoice yesterday and one of the flyers inside was about this new feature for PLDT subscribers. It’s called askPLDT and works basically as an information and directory service. Simply dial the numbers 101-811 using your PLDT landline and you can have access to ALMOST all questions that’s bugging you. There’s no information online so I can’t grab any marketing banner or logo.

Information and Directory
Fast food delivery hotlines
Public advisories
Foreign exchange rates
Travel info
Visa, passport and embassy info
Emergency hotlines
Weather and time check
Chuch mass schedules

Daily Updates
Breaking news
Showbiz chikka
Daily horoscope
Funny jokes
Thought for the day

Latest Happenings
Shopping mall sales
Latest shopping trends

Others: sports news, tv and movie schedules, cooking recipes, gasul delivery, DIY tips, laundry shops, tutorial centers, day care, school tips, plumbing

Amazing huh. I’m very happy to have this feature because my husband and I often find ourselves asking the following questions - “what’s the plumber’s number?”, “do you have the number for taxy service?”, “what’s the number for pizza??”, “we need a carpenter! go fetch the guard to find someone”. Now all we have to do is dial 101-811 and voila! Problem solved. I hope.

PLDt is known for bad customer service so I wonder what they were thinking when they launched this service? I guess I’ll call them all the time just to ask why their customer service sucks. LOL. We’ll see how this goes. First 30 inquiries per month are free by the way.

Snagging from Chikai

1. Were you smiling when you woke up this morning?
~ I can’t remember. I was so sleepy so I doubt it.

2. Which is more romantic: sunrise or sunset?
~ Sunset. It’s so hard to get up in the morning just to see the sunrise.

3. Say a quick quote from a movie.
~ “Who knows? Lightning might strike.” William Parish from Meet Joe Black

4. Would you die for someone?
~ For my bambina I will.

~ Yes

8. If someone did like you, how should they let you know?
~ A nice, unstrained conversation will do.

10. Do you live near any of your friends?
~ No, which is just too bad.

11. Are you scared of spiders?
~ Not really.

12. Do you have a piercing?

15. Do you believe in love?
~ Who doesn’t?
