Another N-Series That Will Blow Your Mind (and Possibly Your Wallet Too)

Filed under: technology — Wrote by admin on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 @ 11:12 am

The Nokia N96 is the latest in the NSeries of Nokia.

Just like any other smartphones in the market, this is a multi-functional phone designed to integrate mobile communication with complete entertainment features. I’ve always been a fan of smartphones ever since I found out I can browse the net using these small gadgets. This particular smartphone is different from its predecessors because of advanced video and camera capabilities. The 5MP camera lets you take high resolution photos and record great videos with the help of stabilization feature. With a large 2.8″ screen, you would enjoy watching your TV shows, thanks to advanced television viewing feature (network-dependent). It stores up to 16GB of internal memory and can be expanded with an optional microSD card.

Designing Trade Show Banners

Filed under: web design — Wrote by admin on Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 @ 11:55 am

Every year, my company joins trade show exhibits to gain more leads. This is always the busiest time of the year for me because of all the planning, presentations, business card designs and banners for the trade show exhibit. As I check my designs last year, I realized how outdated they are. Our new application has been re-designed for web 2.0 so I need something more fun yet sophisticated, corporate but not boring.

Thanks to the Internet, I have unlimited supply of inspiration. A few visits to websites designing trade show exhibit banners just gave me an idea on what to do this time. Colorful banners are so out, minimalist is in. Well, for our software application, that is. I noticed that most banners use photos as backgrounds too, unlike before when the company logo and a couple of swirls and swooshes would be enough. I want to try that approach too but it wouldn’t fit our theme. Plus I need to make sure first how much our budget for the printing will be before I create any artworks.

Targeted Campaigns

Purchasing marketing data is one of the most proven marketing tools that really work. One of the main reasons why companies prefer to purchase opt-in lists is that they need it to be perfect. They can’t afford to waste time sending campaigns, hoping that one of the recipients will be interested. This is why mailing lists providers like The List Company makes sure that all their products are accurate and have a high rate of deliverability.

The List Company has one of the largest databases that contain over 14 million US businesses and 300 million US consumers. From telemarketing lists to specialty response list, you are guaranteed that the data you will purchase has been analyzed thoroughly to ensure the success of your campaign. For example, on their mortgage mailing list, they implement an exclusive enhanced mortgage profiling so your offers will be matched accurately to the most likely responders. They create data over proven statistics and based on multiple related fields. On consumers / telemarketing lists, they have files on behavior and purchasing patterns for most households. This type of data compiling guarantees that the list will contain the most detailed information available.

Fixing Permalinks in Wordpress 2.6

Filed under: blogging tips — Wrote by admin on Friday, July 25th, 2008 @ 10:19 am

I encountered a problem recently when I upgraded my client’s wordpress 2.5 to 2.6. All the single posts cannot be found even if I could see them from the wp admin panel. I tried playing with permalinks option, changed it to default and then all of a sudden, all the single pages are working. The problem occurs whenever I change the permalinks to ‘Custom’. A quick solution is posted at wordpress.org here.

1. If you’re using Linux/Apache on your webserver, you don’t really need the index.php anyway. Try removing it. The index.php thing was only meant for IIS servers, which don’t support mod_rewrite.

2. If you need/want the index.php to be there, then on the Settings->Permalinks screen, add some values in for the category and tag bases. The words “category” and “tag” will do just fine. As long as they are not blank, this should work around the bug.

3. (For advanced users only) If you want to patch the problem yourself, there is a fix available in trac ticket 7306.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work for me. Good thing I found this article “How to Fix Permalinks in Wordpress When All Else Fails”. The process involves uploading an updated rewrite.php file and then setting your permalinks option back to Custom. In a matter of five minutes, my client’s blog is up and running properly.

Wordpress is aware of this permalinks bug in 2.6. You can check it out here.
