From the wordpress.org website:
The latest stable release of WordPress (Version 2.5) is available in two formats from the links to your right.
Three Step Upgrade
These are the short instructions, if you want more check out the extended upgrade instructions. If you experience problems with the Three Step Upgrade, you may want to review the more detailed upgrade instructions.
It looked promising, easy and exciting. Plus my main blog desperately needed an upgrade after using WordPress 2.0 for more than a year. After a quick review of what I need to do, I immediately backed up my files, database and started doing the WordPress 2.5 upgrade.
The more detailed upgrade instructions were great. It was very easy to follow even for a non-techie person. I was even able to load WordPress 2.5 on my local and played around with it for a while. The new interface design is really nice and I noticed that tons of new features have been added. However, things started messing up when I tried to comment, add or edit post, and change themes. Most of the errors have to do with database. I decided to sleep then hoping things will look better in the morning (it usually do). When I woke up, not only I can’t comment but it won’t even allow me access wp-admin anymore. I searched and searched the net for solutions but eventually just decided to downgrade to 2.3.3. I didn’t see any instructions on downgrading so I just closed my eyes; overwrite the 2.5 files with 2.3.3 files while hoping that it will work. It’s still a huge improvement from 2.0 so it will probably do. It did work after a few minor tweaking here and there.
The thing is there are still no sidebar widgets under Presentation when I know it’s already included in the latest versions of WP. I had to make do with copying and pasting codes on the sidebar.php just to make things work. I might take a look into this further but I’m so beat that I’d rather take a break reading about database, Wordpress, PHP codes for a while.
I haven’t had much time to work and blog lately. My little girl was sick with colds for the past five days and wanted to be carried all the time. She can’t breathe when she’s lying down so the husband and I had to take turns in carrying her when she’s sleeping. And when she’s awake, she feels so bad and grumpy that all she wants is her mommy. It was a bit unfortunate too that it was the moment when our vaporizer decided to stop working. We’ve had it for more than two years now and been using it constantly every other month. Good thing my brother-in-law have two vaporizers, which they received from the baby shower. The other one that they got has a funny name called classic volcano vaporizer and shaped exactly like a volcano. It’s pretty effective though, because my niece’s colds usually lasts for 2-3 days only if they turn it on full blast.
Anyway, back to the sick girl. Her colds are not as bad anymore but she’s still not allowed to swim anywhere. She actually acquired it when she went swimming for more than an hour one hot afternoon on her very small inflatable pool. So yes, we’re putting off all our summer getaways until next month. I just can’t risk it because one, it’s her summer and should be fun without getting sick, and two, I’m just so swamped with work that I can’t afford to slack off anymore. (Not that I’m slacking off, I’m just being a mom!)
Here’s one way to make your blogs visible - actively participate in tags, memes, blog carnivals.
Since it’s a Friday, let’s start with the famous Friday’s Feast

Appetizer
What does the color dark green make you think of?
–This may sound boring but I kept on thinking about grass. (parks, lawn) It makes me want to relax, lie down in a grassy area somewhere reading my fave book.
Soup
How many cousins do you have?
– I have tons but only three of them are very close to me.
Salad
On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest, how honest are you?
– Erm, 4? It’s just that I’m such a people pleaser. I hate to hurt anyone’s feelings. For the Husband though, it would be 11 LOL.
Main Course
Name something that is truly free.
– I believe everyone is free to choose their destiny. Just because you were born poor doesn’t mean you have to be for the rest of your life. Some may be lucky, but I’d like to be someone who achieves things through hard work
Dessert
Using the letters in the word SPRING, write a sentence.
–Some People Rely in Natural Good looks to succeed.
At least 70% of new moms would prefer to work from home. I know this for a fact. I, for one, telecommute and it’s the best work situation a mother can wish for. You get to work from the comforts of your own home without the constant worry about your baby’s welfare.
Working from home is prevalent now because more and more companies in the U.S. are going for virtual offices. Whether you’re in Information Technology, Recruitment Advertising, Business Dev, Medical or any other field; you can find a way to telecommute. Some companies might insist that you come to the office once or twice a week because face it, there are some things that you can only do in person, but still, three days of working from home is so much better than leaving your kids with an unknown caregiver everyday.
I know about 9 Filipino mothers who are currently working from home and they are having the time of their lives. The compensation and benefits are varied. Some offers bigger salaries while some are just too low. There’s also the fact that you might find it hard to adjust, having spent all your working days in a real office. Still, there’s one benefit that money can’t buy and that’s being able to see your little ones grow up.
I’m currently in the process of researching online jobs for moms who contacted me, asking where I got my work. Mine is a different story because I was contacted directly by a US company who saw my portfolio in the Internet. There are so many programs that you can apply to though, with and without fees. I will look into these programs closely and post them here.
Don’t you just love that tagline? I just saw it from Apple’s Macbook Air website. Their creative people must be getting paid a lot of money.

Anyway, Macbook Air is the latest and may I say coolest notebook by Apple. It’s the world’s thinnest notebook with 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard, and large multi-touch trackpad. It weighs 3lbs and would you believe, can fit into a large envelope? I’m not kidding. I saw the demo on TV. The Intel Core Duo 2 chip has been customized to fit the Macboook Air so you don’t have to worry about sacrificing performance. It’s also built for the wireless life whether you’re video blogging, renting movies or backing up files into an external drive.
The best thing is, I CAN afford it! LOL. Only because the dollar to peso conversion is so low.

Let me share with you this website that I found while searching for a way to maximize my phone’s (Nokia E65) features. The site is Symbianize.com, a local portal (yes, it’s a Filipino forum!) that lets people share tips and apps for the most popular cellphone brands out there - Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, etc. They have a Hardware Zone that talks about network operators, specific phone features, a separate thread for Pocket PC and Palm, and accessories. Another main category is the Mobile Software Zone, which is where you can always find me. This section has everything that you need, from S40 to S60 to s80 apps, s60 3rd edition apps, PPC and Palm apps, N-gage games, skins and fonts and themes. Before I visited the forum, I had no idea what the heck is S40 but after a couple of minutes browsing, I was enlightened. The forum is absolutely awesome, I tell you. You can download ebooks and audio books, graphics, tones and audios, clips and videos, even full movies and TV series. I guess I feel this way because I found all my favorite ebooks from this site. I haven’t explored the TV series section yet because I’m not really sure if my cellphone can handle it.
If you’re a cellphone freak, visit this site. I’m 110% sure (if that’s even possible) that you will have the time of your life downloading games, tunes and apps for hours and hours.
As a designer, I try to move away from printing projects because one, I don’t have a printer to see what the color looks like, and two, I’m just not comfortable working on huge banners or tarpaulins. But when a client asks for one, then do my best to deliver. The first thing that I ask is where they are planning to print it. Knowing which printing company is a huge deal because then I can get to their website and download one of their templates if they have any. Once I have the template, all I need to do is draw the designs that I have in mind using the specs provided. After that, it’s just a matter of approval and minor changes then the final work will be sent to the printing company. It’s now up to them to match the colors so it will look as nice. Plus I don’t have to worry about unnecessary details / steps (unless they pay me extra to handle it) like account setup, credit cards, deliveries, type of paper, etc.
The Internet is really a big, magical world. Before, to surprise your wife or girlfriend, you will have to walk a few blocks from your house, talk to a florist so she can help you choose the right flower arrangement, write a note while paying for the flowers with cash or credit card so they can deliver the flowers to the recipient. Not too bad I know. But let’s say you’re in the middle of a very important meeting or in a conference out of town, I find it too impersonal to call a shop and have them deliver flowers to your loved one without even seeing how it will look like.
Thanks to the wonders of Internet, you can still send flowers and choose them yourself in a matter of few clicks. Want lilies and daffodils? How about roses? You can choose what you want and see the final arrangement with your own eyes by simply accessing an online floral shop. It’s fast, it’s easy and you can be assured that whomever you send it to, will appreciate the gesture.
As mentioned in my How To Be a Better Blogger post, you should promote constant interaction with your readers.
I’m doing exactly the opposite.
Just too busy at work and maintaining other blogs. So another word of advice, don’t bite off more than you can chew.
Hopefully I can resume blogging after the lenten season.
This is how outdated I am.
I used to see updates on the sidebar of my friends’ blogs and always wondered how they do that. Of course, it’s nothing that a few clicks can solve but I was very busy (as always) that I didn’t have enough time to spare a few clicks. After two months, I’m happy to announce that I am now a Twitter. I just finished the registration and will be installing the widget on all my blogs. This way, my friends and not so friends will see what I’m up to even if I’m not blogging.
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? Bloggers can use it as a mini-blogging tool. Developers can use the API to make Twitter tools of their own. Possibilities are endless!
Try it out. It’s cool, it’s fun. It’s the best way to blog if you have a busy day but still want to keep your friends updated. I, for one, will take advantage of this tool.
